Have you seen the new game show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th grader, that is now on television. Wow, they put those contestants through agony over the simplest questions. And then little miss Anne, the 5th grader, answers correctly and easily and of course she is right. The kids laugh at the adults!!! Well, we can finally say that we would need the answers to subjects we studied in school. Not for work, or to get ahead...NO, to play on the game, Are You Smarter Than a 5th grader!!!!!!!
Well, I go over to my best friend's house about every month and a half. We just started playing a game called, Brain Quest. It has a board where you roll but you can't move unless you answer the question correctly. There are questions for 1st through 6th grade. 7th graders and adults have to answer the 6th grade questions. No problem, right. Billy has 20 cents. What percent of a dollar bill does he have? Simple: 20%
That's what I expected. We start playing the game. The subjects are Math, Science, Social Studies, English, and Grab Bag. I hate social study questions, so what do you think I continually get? SOCIAL STUDIES.
Well, we three are playing, my friend, her 12 year old son, and I. We are smarter than we think. The kid knows all the answers: like, who was the Timmie's father in the book, Old Tom's Cabin. Which triangle has the widest angle: obtuse, right, or acute. Well the answer was obtuse. Doesn't acute sound more immediate, more important, like it has to be the right answer? Well, I say a 180% angle is the largest. (or 179.999%) It is so large that it is a straight line and that is bigger than any angle if you ask me. Let's consider a 360% angle.
We my point is that I was holding my own until I got this question. What island in the British Isles is made completely of limestone? It gives me no clue. I am trying to picture the British Isles but can't. Basically, I have no luck because I have no idea what the answer is. The time is almost up and I spout out: The Rock of Gibraltar. Sam checks the answer and says "Gibraltar"!!!!!!!! I was so excited. How could I pull something out of the air like that and be right?
Sam won the game, OH WELL. But I do like this game now.
